LAS VEGAS – The worldwide leader in Muay Thai returns to the American heartland for a pair of massive events exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports.
LION FIGHT will trek to Salina, Kansas, for Lion Fight 65 scheduled for Friday, April 9th at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center with an international superfight and a women’s title fight headlining the card.
Lion Fight 65 will be live streamed on UFC FIGHT PASS beginning at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. PT.
Tickets for Lion Fight 65 are now available at www.lionfight.com.
LION FIGHT had initially planned event in Europe for late April and early May, but those have been postponed due to travel restrictions and quarantine requirements. LION FIGHT is currently planning another American event and will then follow with the start of the European portion of its schedule in June with details to come soon. World champions including Chip Moraza-Pollard, Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee and Amy Pirnie are all expected to be part of the upcoming events in Europe.
“We are excited about our entire schedule, and of course, bringing the best Muay Thai fighters in the world to the fans on UFC FIGHT PASS,” said LION FIGHT CEO Scott Kent. “The situation with the global pandemic is clearing up, but we are aware that travel restrictions are tricky at the moment. It only delays our European schedule a bit and we will have phenomenal events when those events are set.
“We did not want to hold off on doing shows, however, and doing everything possible to showcase the some of the best talent we have.”
World title eliminator & women’s championship bout top lineup for LF65
Brash Scottish sensation Nico Carrillo will make his hotly anticipated LION FIGHT debut as he meets Mexican standout Josue “Tuzo” Cruz in the main event of Lion Fight 65. The international superfight also serves as world title eliminator with the winner earning the right to take on World Super Lightweight champion Ramesh “Headhunter” Habib. Carrillo has won six straight fights, including a recent stoppage victory in Dubai and his LION FIGHT debut coming last year in Sweden when he earned a decision victory over Kenny Hong.
In the co-main event, it is the showdown for the Women’s North American Lightweight title with Angela “Riptide” Whitley taking on Taylor “TayTay” McClatchie.
Whitley (11-1) is the Muay Thai pride of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a winner on multiple international stages. Her only defeat came in her LION FIGHT debut when she went toe-to-toe for five rounds against World Welterweight champion Jorina Baars. Standing opposite her will be McClatchie (18-1), who fights out of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, has competed in numerous events around the world including Thailand and South Korea. Both athletes have reached high level of achievement outside the ring as well. Whitley, who was featured by Forbes in its “Trailblazers of Puerto Rico” series, has earned his PhD in Environmental Sciences and McClatchie has a Master’s in Cellular Molecular Medicine and is a research scientist at the Ottawa General Hospital.
After missing out on LION FIGHT’s debut on UFC FIGHT PASS due to illness, rising star Jake “Lee” Peacock returns to action with an eye on taking a big step towards the North American Welterweight title. Peacock (3-0), who fights with only one fully developed arm, has been a huge revelation since his organizational debut. The Calgary, Alberta, Canada, product, who was born in England, has notched knockout verdicts in all three of his LION FIGHT bouts, including a head-kick KO over John Garcia in his pro debut as well as finishing Irish prospect Lee Walton with a barrage of body shots. He’ll face his best opponent to date, however, in Kaleb Hunter (4-1), a hard-edged fighter from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, who is well-known for his work in the clinch.
Three other bouts are set for the Lion Fight 65 main card:
*Fan favorite Daniel “Big Kansas” Gallemore (1-1; Eskridge, Kansas) will step into the Lion Fight ring for the first time as the battle-tested combat sports veteran wades into a heavyweight encounter against Doug Holland (2-1; Providence, Rhode Island).
*In a middleweight clash, two promising newcomers arrive on the Lion Fight scene with Ian Greer (5-1; Egan, Minnesota), who has gained valuable experience with a handful of bouts in Thailand, facing Brazilian heavy-hitter Jefferson Da Silva (19-2; San Antonio, Texas).
*Bright new stars square-off against each other in a cruiserweight showdown with Shahriar Zolfaghari (2-0; Chicago, Illinois) tangling with Adrian Weathersby (4-1; Atlanta, Georgia).
